This is a personal Letter. If you’re faced with an impending divorce – I’ve been there. As they say, “I’ve done that”. And I empathise with you completely. I don’t know where you are in the process right now. Regardless, this article is here to help you cope, and learn from another’s experiences and mistakes. But, because I’m a man, this is focused on Divorce Advice for MEN! Let’s face it, the deck is stacked in favor of the women! First, a couple of quick pieces of advice: 1. Get a Lawyer. Even if your separation is going amicably, you still need to invest in a high-quality lawyer to advise you! Perhaps you have furniture or an investment you inherited. These MAY not qualify to be considered as joint property, for example. A lawyer can advise you not only on your rights, but also the timelines involved for the filing, separation, and final divorce. Simply put, it varies dramatically from State to State, and during this time you don’t want to tackle it yourself. 2.Educate yourself! I found a terrific book that provided an amazing amount of information about techniques and strategies to protect your rights; unfortunately, I found it after I was already separated and had signed the agreement! This type of information is worth it’s weight in gold, and I highly recommend you arm yourself with the questions you don’t even know you have right now, and go to a Lawyer armed with the right thoughts and questions to ask!I’ve noted another page about the book in the author bio. 3. Don’t beat yourself up (emotionally). This is a rough time, and no-one can came through it unscathed or unchanged. You’re human, and it’s a FACT that the emotions we feel during a divorce are very similar (or stronger) than when dealing with the death of a loved one. (Again, personal experience). Allow yourself to cry and mourn, but recognize when you need to be strong – when standing up for your rights and those of your children! It’s hard to recognize it when you’re going through it, but you’re not the only person to go through this. Check out these interesting statistics: You’re Not Alone! Do a Bing search for “divorce support” in your area, or check out meetup.com for that term. You’ll find dozens of other people in the same situation on- and off-line willing to help support you. If you are thinking about getting a divorce, are in the middle of one or even want to stop current divorce proceedings, you are likely going to be looking for advice on getting through it. Few people would disagree that getting a divorce can be difficult and stressful, regardless of the specific situation you have found yourself in. You have to think about many different things while you are emotionally vulnerable, which can make for many sleepless nights. Once everything is settled and the divorce is final, you can take a deep breath and relax, but until that happens, you can always use a little more divorce advice. The most important thing you have to remember during a divorce, is that you are not alone. Nobody enjoys going through this, so you have to stay strong and get through it. This is doubly important if there are children involved.First and foremost, you need to take care of yourself during this hard time. Don’t skip meals, and try to stay happy. Take time to work on any hobbies or past-times you enjoy, or even take up yoga. Meditation can be a great help to relax and stay in a positive frame of mind. Staying busy can help keep your mind from dwelling in the past. There is nothing wrong with getting nostalgic about your marriage, as long as you try to remember the good times along with the bad. One thing you should stay away from, is focusing on what “might have been”. Still having trouble dealing with everything? Don’t be embarrassed to look for some professional therapy. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. Keep in mind that it can make a big difference in how you manage your life at this time. It doesn’t need to be a long-term commitment, even just a few sessions with a professional can help you keep your head on straight and offer sound divorce advice. It may be difficult, but try to keep on good terms with your ex. Constant fighting will wear your down and make the entire divorce process much harder. If there is a chance that you might still reconcile, don’t be afraid to pursue that opportunity. Take your time with this choice and don’t let yourself be driven only by emotion. Be realistic about the chance your marriage has of improving. Remember that a bad marriage is unhealthy for both of you, and be ready to accept that even if you are hoping for a possible reconciliation. Sometimes counseling can only help so much. Everyone will have their own tidbits of divorce advice and it’s up to you to choose which suggestions you want to follow. Not all advice is going to be worth listening to, so be careful. Not everyone has good advice, even if they have good intentions. Overall, don’t let the stress take over. Don’t worry over every little detail, and just let some things happen in their own time. It will all work out in the end. And don’t be afraid to seek out as much divorce advice as you can. It is impossible, as humans, to be in close contact with someone for extended periods of time without having some sort of conflict. The best way to deal with arguments and fighting is to stop and gain control over one’s emotions and try to let tempers cool for a bit.
Another way many husbands, wives and partners handle problems is to talk it over with a close friend who is not judgmental. Sometimes the very airing out of the fight or problem can help the person see where the true marriage issues lay.
For those couples and families who cannot find resolution there is always marriage and family counseling. It provides an atmosphere where all parties can address grievances or hurts that might have been caused due to conflicts.

However, before contacting a lawyer there are things that you can do on your own to make sure that everything is in order. When filing for or even thinking about filing for divorce there are things that you should do. The first thing is to discuss the matter of a divorce with your spouse. A divorce should be a last resort and often people try marriage counselling before heading straight for divorce. It is during this discussion time that you should begin looking at your financial options in the event that a divorce really does happen. In order to get your finances in line you need to gather all your financial records, such as old tax returns, bank statements and records, and any documents pertaining to any real estate that you and spouse may have purchased together. There will need to be a record of all financial assets that have been acquired since you have been together as a married couple. Continue Reading »Getting a divorce is not easy. You would have to deal with a lot of changes in relationships, finances and emotions. The tumult that naturally follows a broken relationship is probably the reason why some may not immediately think of asking for practical divorce advice before looking for a lawyer. Getting some advice though can help things go smoother for you and your family.
Why You Need Advice
It is difficult to back out once the few steps have been taken. You need to get the right kind of tips and advice to deal with the changes that will follow and the steps that you need to take. Different pieces of information on divorce will range from the very practical to the very complicated emotional realm.
First of all, unless you are a legal expert yourself, you would need to know what first steps to take. You need to get an overview on what exactly happens before, during and after divorce proceedings. You need information on papers and forms to file, state regulations, child custody, settlements, child support and financial costs. Most importantly, you probably need a hand finding the right lawyer to handle your case.
After getting through the technical procedure of divorce, you would also need to get a glimpse of how it will be after separation. This may present new challenges in the area of budgeting, shared parenting and finding a better job as a single parent.
Unfortunately, most people on the road to divorce need more than just procedural and practical tips on how to go about it. People also need assistance on finding out exactly how to handle emotions, how to prepare and manage the kids, and how to pick up the broken pieces and start all over again. In most cases, comprehensive divorce advice is more than a paid lawyer can provide you.
Where to Find Advice
The technical aspects of divorce can probably be handled best by a legal expert. It would be great if you had a friend who could give you a heads up on the legal mumbo jumbo. Many online sites however also provide that and more.
Today, there are already several sites online that provide accurate information and thorough divorce advice for couples who want to part ways. This is good news because you can get free information in the privacy and comfort of your own home even before you take the first steps to court. The more reliable sites have real legal experts who can dish out free information. Other websites also provide counseling or peer counseling services. You can also easily swap information and tips with forum members who are in the same boat as you are. Some sites specifically cater to either men or women only in recognition of the fact that different genders have different needs.
Disadvantages of Online Advice
The wealth of information online can easily bog you down or overload you. It could also become difficult choosing the right place to start looking for reliable divorce advice. In the internet, you could easily land on a site where you don’t get much or where you get the wrong information. It could take a little more effort on your part to find the perfect advice site for you. Discover legal divorce advice online. Continue Reading »You are likely to get different divorce advice when you ask for it, depending on who you ask.
You should be clear in your mind exactly what you want to know before asking for divorce advice. You will then know what questions to ask. Do NOT make the common mistake of not differentiating all the different divorce categories, as there are many different divorce categories to look for.
Mind Is Fully Made Up
If your mind is fully made up to get a divorce, however tough it may be, then the advice you seek should be relevant to getting a divorce as soon as possible. This will probably involve meeting with lawyers, so essential you have all the proper information to give them. He or she will then be better prepared to provide you with the proper divorce advice.
Not Sure…
However, if you are not totally sure you want to get a divorce you would be wise to talk to a lawyer or financial expert to ask advice about the financial implications. Divorce advice regarding the wellbeing of your children can usually best be obtained from specialists. Marriage counselors are best qualified to give you advice on every aspect of getting a divorce. It’s in your best interests to consult more than one person when you are seeking divorce advice.
When you are sure the divorce is agreed to by both parties, and will be clean and simple without any financial problems then such a divorce should not require any complicated divorce advice. Both parties will have already agreed to getting divorced, so should be emotionally well prepared, with no particular outstanding worries – only sadness. The kind of divorce advice under such circumstances would not normally have very great financial implications, and would probably deal only with a pre-nuptial agreement or even a mutually agreed-to divorce.
However, if you must get divorced perhaps the best divorce advice you can ever get is one which enables you to take care of all the matters on your own by talking to friends, counselors and family. Ultimately the divorce is your decision and only you should be able to think and act it out as best as you can. My advice: Try avoiding divorce at all, if you can, as often painful for all concerned!
